8. Using Pulsers

Using the pulsers has its own chapter covering the special methods to handle the pulser setup, create pulses and do phase cycling. It also describes how the way the pulsers are to be used depends on the hardware used in the spectrometer. The following pulsers/spectrometer combinations of implemented:

All pulsers can be used everywhere when no special requirements for phase-cycling exist, see the discussion below about the differences between the Frankfurt S-band and the Berlin X-band spectrometer.

Please note that the Rubus pulsers are a bit different form the rest in that it they aren't stand-alone devices but are made up from a set of delay and clock cards connected to the Rulbus (Rijksuniversiteit Leiden BUS) which results in a few restrictions.

Because of the importance of the pulser for time-resolved experiments there are even two additional types of sections in the EDL script in order to set up the pulser. These are(2)

PHASES:

The first section deals with the basic setup of the pulsers, the second is only needed when phase cycling is used. Valid statements in these sections differ slightly depending on the type of the pulsers and the spectrometer.

Beside these additional sections there are several other constructs for the creation of pulses and their subsequent manipulation. These are identical for all pulsers and are explained in in subsequent sections of this chapter.
